Chapter 8 習題解答

I) Warm-up

α. ἐν τῷ εὐαγγελίῳ

--- in/by the gospel

II) Translation

1. ἔρχεται (he/she/it comes) εἰς οἶκον.

--- He/she/it comes* {into a house}*.

2. ἐξῆλθεν (he/she/it came out) ἐξ αὐτοῦ.

--- He/she/it came out* {from it}*.

3. Δόξαν παρὰ ἀνθρώπων οὐ λαμβάνω (I receive).

---  I do not receive* glory {from men}*.

4. ἐλάλησεν (he/she/it spoke) ὁ Ἰησοῦς ἐν παραβολαῖς τοῖς ὄχλοις.

--- The Jesus spoke* {in parables}* to the crowds.

5. καὶ ἐβαπτίζοντο (they were being baptized) ὑπ᾽ αὐτοῦ2 ἐν τῷ Ἰορδάνῃ.

--- And they were being baptized* {by him}* {in the Jordan}*.

6. κύριός ἐστιν ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου καὶ τοῦ σαββάτου.

--- The son of the man and of the sabbath is Lord.

--- The son of the man is also Lord of the sabbath.

7. Καὶ ἐγένετο (he/she/it came to pass that) ἐν ἐκείναις ταῖς ἡμέραις ἦλθεν (he/she/it went) Ἰησοῦς ἀπὸ Ναζαρὲτ τῆς Γαλιλαίας καὶ ἐβαπτίσθη (he/she/it was baptized) εἰς τὸν Ἰορδάνην ὑπὸ Ἰωάννου.

--- And it came to pass that

8. Ὁ θεός ἀγάπη ἐστίν, καί ὁ μένων (one remaining) ἐν τῇ ἀγάπῃ ἐν τῷ θεῷ μένει (he/she/it remains) καί ὁ θεός ἐν αὐτῷ μένει.

--- The God is love,
and the one remaining *

9. καὶ ἔλεγεν (he/she/it was saying) αὐτοῖς· τὸ σάββατον διὰ6 τὸν ἄνθρωπον ἐγένετο (he/she/it was made)καὶ οὐχ ὁ ἄνθρωπος διὰ τὸ σάββατον.

--- And he/she was saying to them: "the sabbath was made* {because of the man}* and not the man (was made)^ {because of the sabbath}^".

10. Καὶ ὁ Ἰησοῦς μετὰ τῶν μαθητῶν (disciples) αὐτοῦ ἀνεχώρησεν (he/she/it withdrew) πρὸς τὴν θάλασσαν.

--- And the Jesus {with his disciples}* withdrew* {to the sea}*.

 

III) Additional

11. ὁ Ἰωάννης καὶ ὁ Πέτρος εἰσὶν μετὰ τοῦ Ἰησοῦ ἐν τῷ οἴκῳ τοῦ κυρίου.

--- The John and the Peter are* {with the Jesus}* {in the house of the Lord}*.

12. ἀλλ᾽ οἱ ὄχλοι ἐπορεύθησαν (they traveled) πρὸς τὸν Ἰησοῦν ἀπὸ τῆς θαλάσσης τῆς Γαλιλαίας.

--- But the crowds traveled* {to the Jesus}* {from the sea of the Galilee}*.

13. καὶ εἶπεν ὁ θεὸς τῷ Νῶε καὶ τοῖς υἱοῖς αὐτοῦ μετ᾽ αὐτου …

--- And the God spoke* to the Noah and {to his sons^}* {with him}^ …

14. μετὰ δὲ τὰς ἡμέρας τὰς πολλὰς … ἐτελεύτησεν (he/she/it died) ὁ βασιλεὺς (king) Αἰγύπτου καὶ κατεστέναξαν (they groaned) οἱ υἱοὶ Ἰσραὴλ ἀπὸ τῶν ἔργων καὶ ἀνεβόησαν (they cried out) … πρὸς τὸν θεὸν ἀπὸ τῶν ἔργων.

15. καὶ ἐκάλεσεν (he/she/it called out to) αὐτὸν ἄγγελος κυρίου ἐκ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ· Ἀβραάμ, Ἀβραάμ, ὁ δὲ εἶπεν· ἰδοὺ (behold) ἐγώ.

--- And Lord’s angel called out* {to him}* {from the heaven}* and said^ {to him}^: “Abraham, Abhrham”, then he said: “behold, I (am here)”.

16. οὐ γὰρ ἀπέστειλεν (he/she/it sent) ὁ θεὸς τὸν9 υἱὸν εἰς τὸν κόσμον ἳνα κρίνῃ (he/she/it might condemn)τὸν κόσμον, ἀλλ᾽ ἳνα σωθῇ (he/she/it might be saved) ὁ κόσμος δι᾽ αὐτοῦ.

--- For
the God did not send* the son

                                                                        so that he might condemn the world,
                                                                        but so that the world might be saved^

17. μεταβέβηκεν (he/she/it has been transformed) ἐκ τοῦ θανάτου εἰς τὴν ζωήν.

18. πιστεύετε (Believe) εἰς τὸν θεὸν καὶ εἰς ἐμὲ (me) πιστεύετε.

--- Believe* {into the God}* and believe^ {into me}^.

19. σὺ εἶ ὁ Χριστὸς ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ εὐλογητοῦ (Blessed);

--- And you are the Christ, the son of the Blessed.

20. ἐξῆρεν (he/she/it took) δὲ Μωϋῆς τοὺς υἱοὺς Ἰσραὴλ ἀπὸ θαλάσσης ἐρυθρᾶς (of red) καὶ ἤγαγεν(he/she/it led) αὐτοὺς εἰς τὴν ἔρημον Σούρ.
