Chapter 9 習題解答

I) Warm-up

α. ὁ πιστὸς δοῦλος

--- the faithful servant

β. τῇ τρίτῃ ἡμέρᾳ

--- the beloved son

η. πιστὸς δὲ ὁ θεός.

--- but the God (is) faithful

 

II) Translation

1. ὁ λόγος … κρινεῖ (he/she/it will judge) αὐτὸν ἐν τῇ ἐσχάτῃ ἡμέρᾳ.

--- The word will judge him in the last day.

2. ἦν δὲ ὥρα τρίτη καὶ ἐσταύρωσαν (they crucified) αὐτόν.

--- But it was third hour and they crucified him.

3. ὁ πατὴρ (father) ἐγείρει (he/she/it raises) τοὺς νεκρούς.

--- The father raises the dead ones (men).

4. ὁ θεωρῶν (one who sees) τὸν υἱὸν καὶ πιστεύων (who believes) εἰς αὐτὸν ἔχῃ (he/she/it has) ζωὴν αἰώνιον, καὶ ἀναστήσω (I will raise) αὐτὸν ἐγὼ [ἐν] τῇ ἐσχάτῃ ἡμέρᾳ.

--- The one who sees the son and believes into him has eternal life, and I myself will raise him in the last day.

5. μὴ νικῶ (Be conquered!) ὑπὸ τοῦ κακοῦ, ἀλλὰ νίκα (Conquer!) ἐν τῷ ἀγαθῷ τὸ κακόν.

--- Do not be conquered! by the evil one (thing) , but conquer! the evill one (thing) by/with the good one (thing).

6. ἔσονται οἱ ἔσχατοι πρῶτοι καὶ οἱ πρῶτοι ἔσχατοι.

--- The last ones (men) will be first and the first ones (men) (will be) last.

7. ῥύσεταί (he/she/it will rescue) με ὁ κύριος ἀπὸ παντὸς ἔργου πονηροῦ καὶ σώσει (he/she/it will save) εἰς τὴν βασιλείαν αὐτοῦ τὴν ἐπουράνιον.

--- The Lord will rescue me from every evil deed and (he) will save (me) into his heavenly kingdom.

8. μείνατε (Remain!) ἐν τῇ ἀγάπῃ τῇ ἐμῇ. ἐὰν τὰς ἐντολάς μου τηρήσητε (you keep), μενεῖτε (you will remain) ἐν τῇ ἀγάπῃ μου, καθὼς ἐγὼ τὰς ἐντολὰς τοῦ πατρός(father) μου τετήρηκα (I have kept) καὶ μένω (I remain) αὐτοῦ ἐν τῇ ἀγάπῃ. αὕτη ἐστὶν ἡ ἐντολὴ ἡ ἐμή, ἳνα ἀγαπᾶτε (you love) ἀλλήλους καθὼς ἠγάπησα (I loved) ὑμᾶς (you).

--- Remain! in my love. If you keep my commandments, you will remain in my love, just as I myself have kept the commandments of my father and I remain in his love. This is my commandment, in order that you love one another just as I loved you[pl].

9. αὐτοῦ γάρ ἐσμεν ποίημα (workmanship), κτισθέντες (created) ἐν Χριστῷ Ἰησοῦ ἐπὶ (for) ἔργοις ἀγαθοῖς οἷς προητοίμασεν (he/she/it prepared beforehand) ὁ θεός, ἳνα ἐν αὐτοῖς περιπατήσωμεν (we might walk).

--- For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works which the God prepared beforehand, in order that  we might walk in them.

10. ὁ ἀγαθὸς ἄνθρωπος ἐκ τοῦ ἀγαθοῦ θησαυροῦ (treasure) ἐκβάλλει (he/she/it brings out) ἀγαθά, καὶ ὁ πονηρὸς ἄνθρωπος ἐκ τοῦ πονηροῦ θησαυροῦ ἐκβάλλει πονηρά.

--- The good man brings out good things from the good treasure, and the evil man brings out bad things from the bad treasure.

III) Additional

11. ὁ δὲ Ἰησοῦς ἀπεκρίθη τῷ δουλῷ· αἱ ἐντολαὶ τοῦ θεοῦ πισταὶ καὶ ἀγαθαί, οὐ κακαί.

--- But the Jesus answered to the servant: “God’s commandments are faithful and good, (are) not bad.”

12. ἐν τῇ τρίτῃ ἡμέρᾳ οἱ πονηροὶ ἐξῆλθον (they went out) ἐκ τοῦ οἰκοῦ τοῦ θεοῦ.

--- On the third day the evil men went out of the house of God.

13. οἱ ὀφθαλμοί μου ἐπὶ τοὺς πιστοὺς.

--- My eyes (are) on the faithful ones.

14. ἐν τοῖς λόγοις Δαυὶδ τοῖς ἐσχάτοις ἐστὶν ὁ ἀριθμὸς υἱῶν Λευὶ ἀπὸ εἰκοσαετοῦς (twenty years old) καὶ ἐπάνω (above).

--- By/with/in the last words of David (there) is a number of sons of Levi from twenty years old and above.

15. νῦν γὰρ ἔγνων (I know) ὅτι φοβῇ (you fear) τὸν θεὸν σὺ καὶ οὐκ ἐφείσω17 τοῦ υἱοῦ σου τοῦ ἀγαπητοῦ δι᾽ ἐμέ.

--- For now I know that you yourself fear the God and you did not spare your beloved son because of me.

16. γινώσκομεν (we know) ὅτι ἐσχάτη ὥρα ἐστίν.

--- We know that it is last hour.

17. ἡ βασιλεία ἡ ἐμὴ οὐκ ἔστιν ἐκ τοῦ κόσμου τούτου.

--- My kingdom is not out of this world.

18. Ἐὰν ἀγαπᾶτέ (you love) με, τὰς ἐντολὰς τὰς ἐμὰς τηρήσετε (you will keep).

--- If you love me, you will keep my commandments.

19. ἰδοὺ δέδωκα (I have set) πρὸ προσώπου σου σήμερον τὴν ζωὴν καὶ τὸν θάνατον, τὸ ἀγαθὸν καὶ τὸ κακόν.

--- Look! I have set before your[sg] face today the life and the death, the good and the bad.

20. ὁ πιστεύων (one who believes) εἰς τὸν υἱὸν ἔχει (he/she/it has) ζωὴν αἰώνιον· ὁ δὲ ἀπειθῶν (one who does not believe) τῷ υἱῷ οὐκ ὄψεται (he/she/it will see)ζωήν, ἀλλ᾽ ἡ ὀργὴ τοῦ θεοῦ μένει (he/she/it remains) ἐπ᾽ αὐτόν.

--- The one who believes into the son has eternal life; but the one who does not believe the son does not see lift, but God’s wrath remains on him/her.
