I) Warm-up
α. ἤνεγκα (I brought) τὸν υἱόν μου πρὸς σέ.
--- I brought my son to you.
β. ὁ κύριός μου καὶ ὁ θεός μου
--- my Lord and my God
γ. υἱοὶ τοῦ πατρὸς ὑμῶν
--- sons of my father
δ. ἐπὶ τῇ πίστει τοῦ ὀνόματος αὐτοῦ
--- on the basis of the faith of his name
ε. τοῖς λόγοις τῆς πίστεως καὶ τῆς καλῆς διδασκαλίας (teaching)
--- to/by/for/with the words of the faithful and good teaching
ζ. Ἀσπάζονται (they greet) ὑμᾶς αἱ ἐκκλησίαι πᾶσαι.
--- all the churches greet you.
η. οὐκ ἔχω (I have) ἄνδρα.
--- I do not have a father.
II) Translation
1. ἐγὼ ἐβάπτισα (I baptized) ὑμᾶς ὕδατι, αὐτὸς δὲ βαπτίσει (he/she/it will baptize) ὑμᾶς ἐν πνεύματι ἁγίῳ.
--- I myself baptized you with water, but he himself will baptize you in holy spirit.
2. ἐγὼ ἐλήλυθα (I have come) ἐν τῷ ὀνόματι τοῦ πατρός μου.
--- I myself have come in the name of my father.
3. ἰδοὺ ἡμεῖς ἀφήκαμεν (we have left) πάντα καὶ ἠκολουθήκαμέν (we have followed) σοι.
--- Look, we ourselves have left all (things) and we have followed you.
4. καὶ καυχώμεθα (we rejoice) ἐπ᾽ ἐλπίδι τῆς δόξης τοῦ θεοῦ.
--- And we rejoice on the basis of (the) hope of God’s glory.
5. ὃς (who) ἂν ἓν τῶν τοιούτων (these) παιδίων (children) δέξηται (he/she/it receives) ἐπὶ τῷ ὀνόματί μου, ἐμὲ δέχεται· καὶ ὃς ἂν ἐμὲ δέχηται (he/she/it receives), οὐκ ἐμὲ δέχεται ἀλλὰ τὸν ἀποστείλαντά (one who sent) με.
--- Who ever receives one of these children on the basis of my name, he/she receives me; and who ever receives me, h/she does not receives me but the one who sent me.
6. εἷς γάρ ἐστιν ὑμῶν ὁ διδάσκαλος (teacher), πάντες δὲ ὑμεῖς ἀδελφοί ἐστε.
--- For the teacher is one of you (pl.), but all you are brothers.
7. καὶ ἰδὼν (after seeing) ὁ Ἰησοῦς τὴν πίστιν αὐτῶν λέγει (he/she/it says) τῷ παραλυτικῷ (paralytic)· τέκνον, ἀφίενταί (they are forgiven) σου αἱ ἁμαρτίαι.
--- And after seeing their faith the Jesus says to the paralytic: “Child, your sins are forgiven.”
8. ἰδοὺ ἡ μήτηρ σου καὶ οἱ ἀδελφοί σου [καὶ αἱ ἀδελφαί6 σου] ἔξω ζητοῦσίν (they seek) σε. καὶ ἀποκριθεὶς (answering) αὐτοῖς λέγει (he/she/it says)· τίς ἐστιν ἡ μήτηρ μου καὶ οἱ ἀδελφοί [μου]; … ἴδε ἡ μήτηρ μου καὶ οἱ ἀδελφοί μου. ὃς (who) [γὰρ] ἂν ποιήσῃ (he/she/it does) τὸ θέλημα τοῦ θεοῦ, οὗτος ἀδελφός μου καὶ ἀδελφὴ καὶ μήτηρ ἐστίν.
--- Look, your mother and your brothers and your sisters seek you outside. And answering them he says: “who is my mother and my brothers? … Look, my mother and my btoehrs. For who ever does the will of the God, this (man) is my brother and sister and mother.”
9. Πάντα μοι παρεδόθη (they were given) ὑπὸ τοῦ πατρός μου, καὶ οὐδεὶς ἐπιγινώσκει τὸν υἱὸν εἰ μὴ ὁ πατήρ, οὐδὲ τὸν πατέρα τις ἐπιγινώσκει εἰ μὴ ὁ υἱὸς.
--- All (things) were given to me by my father, and no-one knows the son except the father, neither someone knows the father except the son.
10. Οὐκ εἰμὶ ἐλεύθερος (free); οὐκ εἰμὶ ἀπόστολος; οὐκ Ἰησοῦν τὸν κύριον ἡμῶν ἑόρακα (I have seen); οὐ τὸ ἔργον μου ὑμεῖς ἐστε ἐν κυρίῳ;
--- Am I myself not free? Am I not an apostle? Have I not seen Jesus, our Lord? Are you not my work by Lord?
III) Additional
11. ὑμῖν δὲ ἡ ἀγάπη τοῦ θεοῦ καὶ ἡ πίστις εἰς τὸν Ἰησοῦν.
--- But to you(pl.) the love of the God and the faith into the Jesus.
12. τὸ θέλημα τοῦ θεοῦ ἡμῶν ἐστὶν ἳνα τηρῶμεν (we keep) τὰς ἐντολὰς τὰς ἀγαθὰς αὐτοῦ.
--- The will of our God is in order that we keep his good commanements.
13. καὶ ἐπωνόμασεν (he/she/it named) τὴν πόλιν (city) ἐπὶ τῷ ὀνόματι τοῦ υἱοῦ αὐτοῦ Ἑνώχ.
--- And he named the city on the basis of the name of his son, Enoch.
14. οὐχ ἕνα θεὸν ἔχομεν (we have) καὶ ἕνα Χριστὸν καὶ ἕν πνεῦμα τῆς χάριτος τὸ ἐκχυθὲν (one that was poured out) ἐφ᾽ ἡμᾶς, καὶ μία κλῆσις (calling) ἐν Χριστῷ;
--- Do we not have
one God
and one Christ
and one Spirit of grace, the one that was poured on us,
and one calling in Christ?
15. τιμήσει (he/she/it will honor) αὐτοὺς ὁ κύριος Ἰησοῦς Χριστός, εἰς ὃν (whom) ἐλπίζουσιν (they hope) σαρκί, ψυχῇ,11 πνεύματι, πίστει, ἀγάπῃ.
--- The Lord* Jesus Christ will honor them, into whom* they hope with flesh, soul, spirit, faith, love.
16. καὶ εἶπεν ὁ θεός· τί ἐποίησας (you did); φωνὴ αἳματος τοῦ ἀδελφοῦ σου βοᾷ (he/she/it is crying out) πρός με ἐκ τῆς γῆς.
--- And the God said: “What (thing) you did? A voice of blood of your brother is crying out to me from the earth.”
17. ὁδοὶ δύο εἰσὶν διδαχῆς καὶ ἐξουσίας, ἡ … τοῦ φωτὸς καὶ ἡ τοῦ σκότους· διαφορὰ (difference) δὲ πολλὴ τῶν δύο ὁδῶν.
--- There are two ways of teaching and authority, the (one) … of the light and the (one) of the darkness; but great difference of the two ways.
18. καὶ εἶπεν Δαυὶδ πάσῃ τῇ ἐκκλησίᾳ· εὐλογήσατε (bless!) κύριον τὸν θεὸν ὑμῶν· καὶ εὐλόγησεν (he/she/it blessed) πᾶσα ἡ ἐκκλησία κύριον τὸν θεὸν τῶν πατέρων αὐτῶν.
--- And David said to all the assembly: “Bless! Lord, our God;” And all the assembly blessed Lord, the God of their fathers.
19. οὗτος ἦλθεν (he/she/it came) εἰς μαρτυρίαν ἳνα μαρτυρήσῃ (he/she/it might witness) περὶ τοῦ φωτός, ἳνα πάντες πιστεύσωσιν (they might believe) δι᾽ αὐτοῦ. οὐκ ἦν … τὸ φῶς, ἀλλ᾽ ἳνα μαρτυρήσῃ περὶ τοῦ φωτός.
--- This (man) came for witness in order that he might witness concerning the light, in order that all (men) might) believe through him. He is not … the light, but in order to witness concerning the light.
20. Καὶ Ἰησοῦς προέκοπτεν (he/she/it increased) [ἐν τῇ] σοφίᾳ καὶ ἡλικίᾳ (stature) καὶ χάριτι παρὰ θεῷ καὶ ἀνθρώποις.
--- And Jesus increased in the wisdom and stature and favor from God and men.
