I) Warm-up
α. πιστεύω.
--- I am believing.
β. τὴν φωνὴν αὐτοῦ ἀκούεις.
--- You(sg.) are hearing his voice.
γ. ἐξουσίαν ἔχει ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου.
--- The son of the man is having authority.δ. τὸ φῶς τοῦ κόσμου τούτου βλέπουσιν.
--- They are seeing the light of this world.
ε. τότε ἀκούομεν τὸν νόμον μετὰ χαρᾶς.
--- Then we are hearing the law with joy/after joy).
ζ. τὸν δὲ νόμον τοῦ κυριοῦ οὐ λύετε.
--- But you(pl.) are not destroying the law.
η. καὶ ἀκούει ὁ τυφλὸς τὴν φωνήν.
--- And the blind (man) is hearing the voice.
II) Translation
1. τούτῳ ὑμεῖς οὐ πιστεύετε.
--- You(pl.) are not believing this (man/thing).
2. ἀπεκρίθη ὁ ὄχλος· δαιμόνιον ἔχεις.
--- The crowd answered: "You(sg.) are having a demon."
3. οὐκ ἔχω ἄνδρα.
--- I do not have a husband.
4. τί δὲ βλέπεις τὸ κάρφος (splinter) τὸ ἐν τῷ ὀφθαλμῷ τοῦ ἀδελφοῦ σου;
--- But why you are seeing the splinter which is in the eyes of your brother?
5. ὁ ὢν (one who is) ἐκ τοῦ θεοῦ τὰ ῥήματα τοῦ θεοῦ ἀκούει· διὰ τοῦτο ὑμεῖς οὐκ ἀκούετε, ὅτι ἐκ τοῦ θεοῦ οὐκ ἐστέ.
--- The one who is from the God is hearing the words of the God; On account of this you(pl.) yourselves are not hearing, because you(pl.) are not from the God.
6. πάντοτε (always) γὰρ τοὺς πτωχοὺς (poor) ἔχετε μεθ᾽ ἑαυτῶν, ἐμὲ δὲ οὐ πάντοτε ἔχετε.
--- For always you(pl.) have the poor (men) with yourselves, but you do not always have me.
7. σὺ πιστεύεις εἰς τὸν υἱὸν τοῦ ἀνθρώπου;
--- Are you(sg.) believing into the son of the man?
8. λέγω γὰρ ὑμῖν ὅτι οἱ ἄγγελοι αὐτῶν ἐν οὐρανοῖς διὰ παντὸς βλέπουσι τὸ πρόσωπον τοῦ πατρός μου τοῦ ἐν οὐρανοῖς.
--- For I am saying to you(pl.) that their angels in heavens always see the face of my father who is in heavens.
9. ὑμῶν δὲ μακάριοι οἱ ὀφθαλμοὶ ὅτι βλέπουσιν καὶ τὰ ὦτα (ears) ὑμῶν ὅτι ἀκούουσιν.
--- But the eyes of yours(pl.) (are) blessed because they are seeing and the ears of yours (are blessed) because they are hearing.
10. λέγουσιν οὖν τῷ τυφλῷ πάλιν· τί σὺ λέγεις περὶ αὐτοῦ, ὅτι ἠνέῳξέν (he/she/it opened) σου τοὺς ὀφθαλμούς; ὁ δὲ εἶπεν ὅτι προφήτης ἐστίν.…
οὗτός ἐστιν ὁ υἱὸς ὑμῶν, ὃν ὑμεῖς λέγετε ὅτι τυφλὸς ἐγεννήθη (he/she/it was born); πῶς οὖν βλέπει ἄρτι (now);.…
ἀπεκρίθη οὖν ἐκεῖνος· εἰ ἁμαρτωλός (sinner) ἐστιν οὐκ οἶδα (I know)· ἓν οἶδα ὅτι τυφλὸς ὢν6 ἄρτι βλέπω.
--- Now they are saying to the blind (man) again: "What do you yourself say about him, that he opened your eyes ?"
But the (blind man) said that he is a prophet ......
This (man) is your son, whom you(pl.) are saying that he was born a blind (man)? Then how he is seeing now? ......
Then that (man) answered: "I do not know if he is a sinner; I know one (thing) that even I was a blind man now I am seeing."
III) Additional
11. πιστὸν τὸ ρῆμα τοῦτο· διὰ τὴν πίστιν ὑμῶν ἐν τῷ υἱῷ τοῦ θεοῦ εἰρήνην τε καὶ χαρὰν ἐν τῷ πνεύματι τῷ ἁγίῳ ἔχετε.
--- This word is faithful: "because of your faith in the son of the God, you(pl.) are having peace and also joy in the holy spirit."
12. ὅτε δὲ τῶν λόγων τῶν καλῶν τοῦ θεοῦ ἀκούομεν, ταῦτα πάντα πιστεύομεν, ἔχουσιν γὰρ ἡμῖν τὴν ἐπαγγελίαν τῆς αἰωνίας ζωῆς.
--- But when we are hearing the good words of the God, we are believing all these (things), for they are having for us the promise of the eternal life.
13. καὶ εἶπεν κύριος πρὸς Μωϋῆν· τί οὐ πιστεύουσίν μοι ἐν πᾶσιν τοῖς σημείοις οἷς βλέπουσιν ἐν αὐτοῖς;
--- And Lord said to Moses: "Why they are not believing me in all the signs which they "
14. σὺ γὰρ ζωῆς καὶ θανάτου ἐξουσίαν ἔχεις.
--- For you yourself has authority of life and death.
15. καὶ νῦν οὐ πιστεύετέ μοι; οὐ μέγας ὁ βασιλεὺς τῇ ἐξουσίᾳ αὐτοῦ;
--- And now are you(pl.) not believing me? (Is) not a king great by his authority?
16. τὴν ἀγάπην τοῦ θεοῦ οὐκ ἔχετε ἐν ἑαυτοῖς.
--- You(pl.) do not have the love of the God in yourselves.
17. ἐγὼ δὲ ὅτι τὴν ἀλήθειαν λέγω, οὐ πιστεύετέ μοι.
--- But because I myself am saying the truth, you(pl.) are not believing me.
18. ἀλλὰ διὰ τῆς χάριτος τοῦ κυρίου Ἰησοῦ πιστεύομεν σωθῆναι (that we are saved).
--- But through the grace of the Lord, Jesus, we believe that we are saved.
19. νῦν δὲ ὑπὸ ἀγγέλου βλέπεις, διὰ τοῦ αὐτοῦ μὲν πνεύματος.
--- But now you(sg.) see by an angel, through the same spirit indeed.
20. Ἰησοῦς δὲ ἔκραξεν (he/she/it cried out) καὶ εἶπεν· ὁ πιστεύων (one who believes) εἰς ἐμὲ οὐ πιστεύει εἰς ἐμὲ ἀλλὰ εἰς τὸν πέμψαντά (one who sent) με.
--- But Jesus cried out and said: "the one who believes into me is not believing into me but into the one who sent me."
