Chapter 25 習題解答

I) Warm-up

α. πεπίστευκεν εἰς τὸ ὄνομα.

--- He has believed into the name.

β. θεὸν οὐδεὶς ἑώρακεν.

--- No one has seen God.

γ. πεπλήρωται ὁ καιρός.

--- The time has been fulfilled.

δ. ἐγὼ εἰς τοῦτο γεγέννημαι καὶ εἰς τοῦτο ἐλήλυθα.

--- I myself have been born into this and into this I have come.

ε. βέβληται εἰς τὴν θάλασσαν.

--- He has been cast into the sea.

ζ. ἔχομεν ταῦτα ἃ ᾐτήκαμεν ἀπ᾽ αὐτοῦ.

--- We are having these (things) which we have asked from him.

η. ὁ διδάσκαλος τοῦ κόσμου τούτου κέκριται.

--- The teacher of this world has been judged.

 

II) Translation

1. ἐγὼ πεπίστευκα ὅτι σὺ εἶ ὁ χριστὸς ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ θεοῦ.

--- I myself have believed that you yourself are the Christ, the son of the God.

2. ἀπάγγειλον (Tell!) αὐτοῖς ὅσα ὁ κύριός σοι πεποίηκεν.

--- Tell! them whatever the Lord has done for you.

3. οὐ δύναται ἁμαρτάνειν (to sin), ὅτι ἐκ τοῦ θεοῦ γεγέννηται.

--- He is not able to sin, because he has been born out of the God.

4. κἀγὼ ἑώρακα, καὶ μεμαρτύρηκα ὅτι οὗτός ἐστιν ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ θεοῦ.

--- And I myself have seen, and I have testifyed that this (man) is the son of the God.

5. ἡ πίστις σου σέσωκέν σε. καὶ ἐσώθη ἡ γυνὴ ἀπὸ τῆς ὥρας ἐκείνης.

--- Your faith has saved you. And the woman was saved from that hour.

6. ὁ πιστεύων (one who believes) εἰς αὐτὸν οὐ κρίνεται· ὁ δὲ μὴ πιστεύων (one who believes) ἤδη κέκριται, ὅτι μὴ πεπίστευκεν εἰς τὸ ὄνομα τοῦ μονογενοῦς (only) υἱοῦ τοῦ θεοῦ.

--- The one who believes into him is not being judged; but the one who does believes already has been judged, because he has not believed into the name of the only son of the God.

7. τοῖς πᾶσιν γέγονα πάντα.

--- I have become all things to/for all men.

8. αὕτη δέ ἐστιν ἡ κρίσις (judgment) ὅτι τὸ φῶς ἐλήλυθεν εἰς τὸν κόσμον καὶ ἠγάπησαν οἱ ἄνθρωποι μᾶλλον τὸ σκότος (darkness) ἢ τὸ φῶς· ἦν γὰρ αὐτῶν πονηρὰ τὰ ἔργα.

--- But this is the judgement that the light has come into the world and the men loved the darkness more than the light; for their works were evil.

9. ἀλλὰ λέγω ὑμῖν ὅτι καὶ Ἠλίας ἐλήλυθεν, καὶ ἐποίησαν αὐτῷ ὅσα ἤθελον, καθὼς γέγραπται ἐπ᾽ αὐτόν.

--- But I am saying to you(pl.) that Elijah has also come, and they did to him as many things as they were wishing  just as it has been written on him.

10. ἀλλὰ ἔγνωκα ὑμᾶς ὅτι τὴν ἀγάπην τοῦ θεοῦ οὐκ ἔχετε ἐν ἑαυτοῖς. ἐγὼ ἐλήλυθα ἐν τῷ ὀνόματι τοῦ πατρός μου, καὶ οὐ λαμβάνετέ με.

--- But I have known you(pl.) that you are not having the love of the God in yourselves. I myself have come in the name of my father, and you are not receiving me.

 

III) Additional

11. ὅτι πεπιστεύκαμεν τὴν ἀληθείαν περὶ τοῦ Ἰησοῦ, βαπτισθησόμεθα ἐν τοῖς ὕδασιν τῆς θαλάσσης ὑπὸ τοῦ Ἰωάννου τοῦ ἀποστόλου.

--- Because we have believed the truth concerning the Jesus, we will be baptized in the waters of the sea by the John, the apostle.

12. αἱ οὖν γλῶσσαι τῶν στομάτων ἡμῶν μεμαρτύρηκαν περὶ τοῦ κυρίου τῶν οὐρανῶν ὅτι ἡμᾶς σέσωκεν ἀπὸ τῶν ἁμαρτιῶν ἡμῶν διὰ τοῦ αἳματος τοῦ υἱοῦ αὐτοῦ.

--- Then the tongues of our mouths have testified concerning the Lord of the heavens that/because he has saved us from the our sins through the blood of his son.

13. καὶ εἶπεν Ἰσραὴλ πρὸς Ἰωσήφ· ἀποθανοῦμαι ἀπὸ τοῦ νῦν, ἐπεὶ (because/since) ἑώρακα τὸ πρόσωπόν σου ἔτι γὰρ σὺ ζῇς.

--- And Israel said to Joseph: "I will die from now, since I have seen your face for you yourself are still living"

14. καὶ εἶπεν Μωϋῆς πρὸς τὸν θεόν· ἰδοὺ ἐγὼ ἐλεύσομαι πρὸς τοὺς υἱοὺς Ἰσραὴλ καὶ ἐρῶ πρὸς αὐτούς· ὁ θεὸς τῶν πατέρων ὑμῶν ἀπέσταλκέν με πρὸς ὑμᾶς· ἐρωτήσουσίν με· τί ὄνομα αὐτῷ, τί ἐρῶ πρὸς αὐτούς;

--- And Moses said to the God: "Look! I myself will come to the sons of Israel and I will speak to them: 'The God of our fathers has sent me to you;' they will ask me: 'What is his name,' what will I speak to them?"

15. καὶ εἶπεν κύριος πρὸς Μωϋῆν· καὶ τοῦτόν σοι τὸν λόγον ὃν εἴρηκας ποιήσω, εὕρηκας γὰρ χάριν ἐνώπιόν μου καὶ οἶδά σε παρὰ πάντας.

--- And Lord said to Moses: "And I will do to you this word which you have spoken," for you have found grace/favor before me and I have known you from all (men).

16. τὰ ῥήματα ἃ ἐγὼ λελάληκα ὑμῖν πνεῦμά ἐστιν καὶ ζωή ἐστιν.

--- The words which I myself have spoken to you is spirit and is life.

17. καὶ ἡμεῖς πεπιστεύκαμεν καὶ ἐγνώκαμεν ὅτι σὺ εἶ ὁ ἅγιος τοῦ θεοῦ.

--- And we have believed and we have known that you yourself are the holy one of the God.

18. ἀμὴν ἀμὴν λέγω σοι ὅτι ὃ οἴδαμεν λαλοῦμεν καὶ ὃ ἑωράκαμεν μαρτυροῦμεν, καὶ τὴν μαρτυρίαν ἡμῶν οὐ λαμβάνετε.

--- Truly, truly I am speaking to you that we are speaking what we know and we are testifying what we have seen, and you are not receiving our testimony.

19. ὑμεῖς ἀπεστάλκατε πρὸς Ἰωάννην, καὶ μεμαρτύρηκεν τῇ ἀληθείᾳ· ἐγὼ δὲ οὐ παρὰ ἀνθρώπου τὴν μαρτυρίαν λαμβάνω, ἀλλὰ ταῦτα λέγω ἳνα ὑμεῖς σωθῆτε (you might be saved).

--- You yourselves have sent to John, and he has testified the truth; but I myself am receiving the testimony not from a man, but I am saying these things in order that you yourselves might be saved.

20. τότε λέγει αὐτῷ ὁ Ἰησοῦς· ὕπαγε (Depart!), σατανᾶ· γέγραπται γάρ· κύριον τὸν θεόν σου προσκυνήσεις.

--- Then the Jesus is saying to him: "Depart! Satan; for it has been written: 'You(sg.) shall worship Lord, your God.'"
